| Frank Blevins and his Tarheel
Rattlers |
Frank Blevins was from Alleghany County, North
Carolina and recorded eight tunes for Columbia at the age of 15.
He played the fiddle and sang on four of the selections, with his brother
Edd on guitar and Fred Miller on banjo singing on two selections each.
Their version of Sally Ann, which they called Sally Aim, and in
the unlikely key of C for this common tune, represented well the essence
of oldtime music, where emphasis is on the emotive quality rather than
technical virtuosity. Also, listen to their I've Got No Honey Babe
Now to hear the young Frank Blevins play soulful notes in this uncommon
melody.
