	Best Plugins and Skins

I find Winamp the nicest mp3 player for my needs. It is totally free with a host of plugins, and I find the software very stable and reliable. You can stream audio from the internet simply by opening a url(such as any of the mp3 files on this site). Now alpha version available for the MAC!

For the latest versions:

NOTE: Winamp versions 3 and up do not seem to support the important slowdown plugin below so use earlier versions. I use v2.78 as v2.79 seems to have a problem with the loop mode. Here is Winamp 2.78 full version:

Following are the basic plugins I use as well as the Old Time Music Series skin:

If you are a musician and wish to slow tunes down without changing pitch to facilitate the learning process, look no further! BOTH pitch of the instruments AND the tempo can be adjusted so that one can tune the recording to you and then drop the tempo without changing the pitch! IT DOESN'T GET ANY EASIER THAN THIS TO LEARN TUNES!! You will need this excellent plugin from Rolf Nilsson:

Download the above file and then double click to install the file in the plugin directory.

TIPS:

Leave Bypass checked upon closing Winamp or it will remember your setting and any subsequent files opened might be stretched.

Press CTRL key and left click sliders to reset to ZERO(no pitch/tempo change)

Steel This Amp Skin

Many skins are available and I have included my favourite from Stephen Moss because it is analog inspired and easy to read the controls:

Right Click and Save the above file and then double click to install the file in the skin directory. This will also automatically start Winamp.

NOTE: I had trouble only in Netscape downloading and installing this file. Please switch to Internet Explorer if you experience difficulty in this skin installing correctly. Here is a workaround:

Download this same file renamed as a .zip file:

Steel_This_Amp.zip 107 Kb

Rename back to Steel_This_Amp.wsz before double clicking to install.

Harman Kardon Old Time Music Series SkinI made a few small modifications in this skin, (such as the inclusion of short cut keys above the main console controls) and patterned it after my old Harman Kardon amp:

Right Click and Save the above file and then double click to install the file in the skin directory. This will also automatically start Winamp.

Winamp will play tunes back to back with little delay but this great plugin by Urban Sandström which resolves the issue very nicely. A necessity if you want to listen to a long list of files!
